LG LBN20517 Bottom Freezer fridge

by Steve
(Ontario, Canada)

About two years ago, we purchased a LG Bottom Freezer fridge (model LBN20517). I had wanted a bottom mount for a long time because of my difficulties with bending over to get things out of a traditional fridge. And wouldn't you know, now that I have a freezer on the bottom, I feel I am in the freezer more than ever.

Anyway, that is the main reason I like the fridge, having better access to the items in the fridge. I will never go back to a regular fridge again. The freezer has adequate space however if I had room, I'd definitely have purchased a bigger one.

It also has a door alarm which is very handy since I have a toddler who likes to open the fridge and/or freezer and leave it open. This alerts me that it's been left open after about a minute. This fridge is energy efficient, it is Energy Star rated and runs using about 15% less energy than our older fridge.

We have had one minor problem though. Just a year after we purchased it, we noticed a strange electrical smell coming from the fridge. We couldn't find where the problem was but after a few days, we noticed the light and temp control fixture had come unattached from where it is screwed in to the "ceiling" of the fridge.

It appears that some of the plastic had melted and the weight of it made it fall. We managed to get it mounted back up but the light cover doesn't fit any more and the bulbs are exposed. This issue was not resolved to our satisfaction by LG customer service and I can honestly say we will not purchase another LG fridge in the future. We have not owned LG in the past.

Beth I have homes in both Washington, US and Ontario, Canada
